“Classic offers excellent hotels and great itineraries! A pleasure to deal with.” - UK Coach Operator
Scotland is best known worldwide for its ancient castles and whisky – it’s also a place much loved by the Royals. The base for our Royal Deeside Tour is in the granite city of Aberdeen, well positioned to easily access both the Whisky Trail and Castle Trail. Included in this regal spotlight is a guided tour of the Royal family's Scottish residence as well as visiting one of Scotland’s most haunted castles. The tour heads over the "tops" and into Speyside with a spot of whisky tasting on the world's most famous and well recognised malt whisky trail.
A snippet about Balmoral - At the entrance to Balmoral lies the foundation stone laid by Queen Victoria in 1853. Underneath in a sealed bottle is a signed parchment together with each current coin of the realm.

Tuesday Royal Deeside & Balmoral Castle
Firstly we venture into Royal Deeside - much loved by the Royals for its rugged Highland landscapes & peaceful countryside. In the shadows of Lochnagar stands Balmoral Castle, The King's Royal Residence, the favourite residence of the late queen and described by Queen Victoria as “my dear paradise in the Highlands”. We have arranged for a local castle guide to take you on a tour of the castle and grounds, telling tales along the way. On return, time free in Ballater on the banks of the River Dee.
Wednesday Malt Whisky Trail & The Grampians
Over the mountain tops and through the villages of Lecht and then Tomintoul. At 1164 feet above sea level Tomintoul is the highest village in the Highlands. We stop off in Grantown on Spey before heading along Speyside, the ancestral home of the famous “Malt Whisky Trail” - the worlds most recognised and well known whisky region and the only one of its kind in the world. Famous brands like Glenfiddich, Glen Grant & Chivas Regal distil here together with 12 others like Dallas Dhu and Glenfarclas. Arranged is a dedicated tour & two tastings with a whisky expert at one of the main distilleries. Continuing the day with free time in Aberlour and a visit to where Walkers shortbread is made. Afterwards, returning to your hotel through Grampian Highland scenery.
Thursday Aberdeen & the Castle Trail
The “Castle Trail” starts in Banchory. First visit is 16th century Crathes Castle & Gardens with its turrets and towers, winding staircases, ornate ceilings, 240 hectares of exquisite formal gardens and its resident ghost! The 50 mile castle trail, has more castles per acre than anywhere else in the UK - Craigievar, Houghton, Fraser and Drum Castles to name a few, and the tour take you past most of them. Returning to Aberdeen early afternoon with ample time to explore the “Granite City”, Scotland’s 3rd largest city, with its parks, museums (which are free), Cathedral and expansive shopping mall.
