Day 2: Welsh Valleys & Cheese
Venture into to the Valleys for a day of cheese and Welsh charm. Established in 2006 is the Blaenavon Cheddar Company. The only company in the world to produce cheddar 30ft below the ground in an ex-coal mine. Enjoy tea and Welsh cakes on arrival before hearing the story of the cheese production before a delicious tasting. Enjoy a three-course taste of Wales lunch in the Lion Hotel.
Day 3: Cardiff & Museum of Welsh Mining
Time free to explore Cardiff before departing for The Rhondda Valley- another famous coal mining hub. It plays host to the famous coal mining heritage centre telling the story of Wales’s most famous export. A tour around the Museum of Welsh Mining at Lewis Merthyr Colliery has been arranged along with entry to the interactive exhibition. No longer producing coal, the centre has its very own chocolate house. Enjoy sampling the produce and discover the origins of chocolate as part of a 40 minute guided tasting session.
Day 4: South Wales Coastal Route & Hensol Castle.
Wales doesn’t just produce mouth-watering food; it makes a not too bad gin too. Hensol Castle is South Wales’s first full scale gin distillery and visitor experience. A tour and tasting has been arranged. Take the coastal route back to the Cardiff passing through Barry Island and Penarth with its vintage pier. Enjoy a traditional afternoon tea before exploring the city’s Victoria arcades bustling with character and Welsh charm.
