Day 2 Northern Peaks
Today is High-Peaks Day. Firstly, over “Snake Pass” traversing across the Park to the vantage point of Bleaklow overlooking Ladybower Reservoir, where the Dambusters trained during WWII. Further on is Derwent Reservoir, with the ruins of a village hidden beneath its waters. Free time in Eyam - the 1665 plague town, with its museum and imposing ruins of Peveril Castle, dating back to 1176. Finally, the pretty village of Castleton, home of the legendary Blue John Caverns, said to be the finest in the UK.
Wednesday Matlock Bath & Nostalgic Steam
Discover the southern end of the Peak District as you sit back on a nostalgic 25 minute steam train journey between Rowsley & Matlock, gliding past villages and open countryside from the comfort of your carriage. Beside the River Derwent is the popular tourist spot of Matlock Bath, located in a steep and beautiful gorge. Take the cable car upto Abraham Heights and take in the wonderful views, or explore the number of attractions, walks, shops and eateries.
Thursday Peak District & Chatsworth House
In the heart of the Peaks lies Bakewell, famous for its tart, with a visit to the original Bakewell Pudding shop, where the tart is still made. On to the nearby “Palace of the Peaks”. Explore Chatsworth’s rich interior furniture & unique treasures. Stroll round the 105 acres of landscaped gardens with sculptures, mazes and waterfalls. Chatsworth was voted in the top 10 UK visitor attraction by Trip Advisor users. On the way home stop off in the spa town of Buxton.
