Day 2: Loch Katrine, Callander & Stirling Castle
Heading out of Aberfoyle, the mountain scenery comes into view, with a glorious drive through the heart of the Trossachs. We stop for photos at Loch Katrine and then for a short stop in the popular town of Callander. Continuing to Stirling, the ancient capital of Scotland, with entry into the impressive Stirling Castle. Stand in the Great Hall, the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland. The elaborate Chapel Royal dates to the 1500s, and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlander Regimental Museum is a must-see. The views from the ramparts are quite breathtaking.
Day 3: Loch Lomond
A more leisurely day today as the tour heads to the southern shores of Loch Lomond, regarded as the bonniest of Scotland's lochs. The loch is 21 miles long and up to 5 miles wide, and in places the loch is over 1 mile deep. There are 22 islands, and it has more water than all the lakes in England combined! Time is spent at Lomond Shores, Balloch, with shops, eateries and gentle lochside walks. If the weather permits, there are 1-hour cruises out onto the loch. After lunch, we complete a circular tour by-passing the city skyline of Glasgow.
Day 4: Edinburgh & Royal Yacht Britannia
Heading east, we stop for a while at "The Kelpies", the mythical Scottish water-horse, the two largest equine sculptures in the world, standing over 100 feet high. Afterwards, we continue towards Edinburgh, where entry has been arranged to board the Royal Yacht Britannia, a Royal residence for over 40 years, sailing over 1 million miles on 968 state visits. Explore the 5 decks at will with your free audio guide. Edinburgh city centre is only 2 miles away, with time free to see some of the sights before returning to your hotel.
