Day 2: Downton Abbey at Highclere Castle
After a leisurely Hilton full English breakfast, we visit nearby Highclere Castle, the famous film set for the award-winning TV series Downton Abbey. The Castle, or “Downton Abbey”, has over 300 rooms, 61 of them being bedrooms. The TV series attracted, on average, 13 million viewers per episode, inspired by the life of its most famous inhabitant, Lady Almina, the 5th Countess of Carnarvon. Entry includes access to roam around the castle & hear the stories. Highclere is one of England’s most beautiful Victorian Castles set in 1000 acres of Parkland, with entry into the Egyptian Museum included. Also, there are extensive parklands and gardens to stroll around.
Day 3: Waddesdon Manor & Oxford
Oxford - “The city of dreaming spires” is the oldest university town in the world, with 38 colleges in the city’s medieval centre. It is also the location for many TV programmes and films such as Inspector Morse and Downton Abbey. Time is spent exploring one of England’s most beautiful cities, before taking the short journey to Waddesdon Manor, a 16th-century French Renaissance-style chateau. Entry is included into this fashionable house with a collection of fine art and furniture. Step back in time in the Victorian Gardens, with its flamboyant colours amid ornate fountains and statuary.
Day 4: Hever Castle & Bluebell Steam
Firstly, a drive through Sussex & Surrey countryside to Sheffield Park to board the famous Bluebell Train for the 40-minute relaxing steam journey through the Sussex countryside. Afterwards, travel to nearby Hever Castle & Gardens. It is one of the best-kept examples of a 13th-century castle, home to Anne Boleyn, the 2nd wife of Henry VIII. The castle is full of treasures, and the 125 acres of gardens are amongst the best in the UK with over 4000 plants, including the Italian garden, walled rose garden & water features.
