Shropshire is England’s 6th least populated county, giving the area a relaxed feel. It has a truly remarkable variety of places to visit from its scenic beauty, historic sites, timber framed villages to steam trains & the World Heritage site of living Victoriana at Blists Hill. Take a walk across the 1st iron bridge in the world with the crowning glory being a venture into Wales to ‘float in the sky’ on the magnificent Pontcysyllte aqueduct.
Salop is an old name for Shropshire, historically used as an abbreviated form for post or telegrams.

Day 2: Tudor Shrewsbury & Medieval Ludlow
A leisurely morning drive through Shropshire through Shropshire’s farmlands via Wenlock Edge to one of England’s most ancient towns. Ludlow dates back 1000 years having over 500 listed buildings and a castle. In the afternoon head north to the river town of Shrewsbury famed for its black and white timber buildings. Full of boutique shops and cosy cafes, a River Severn cruise has been arranged for you to sit back, relax and admire the town whilst enjoying a cuppa on board.
Day 3: Ironbridge Gorge & Victoriana Blists Hill
Just a short drive away stands Blists Hill Victorian Town. Rocket back to the age of steam and see life more than 100 years ago at the famous open-air museum. Meet some (almost) real Victorians in their authentic shops and cottages. Top your visit off with a bag of fish and chips cooked the traditional way in beef dripping and some treats from the old-fashioned sweetie shop. The journey home takes you via Ironbridge where the industrial revolution began. Built in 1779 the cast iron structure was the first ever cast-Iron Bridge.
Day 4: Welsh Borders
The terrain becomes more mountainous as the Welsh roads leads the tour to Llangollen – a thriving little town and home to both a steam railway and Llangollen Canal. Time free to have a stroll and have lunch before boarding the narrowboat for a two hour trip across Thomas Telford’s Pontcysyllte Aqueduct – 1000 feet long and 126 feet high, and recognised as a World Heritage Site. Returning through Shropshire countryside.
